MAGAZINE EVALUATION ALI XANI

Our magazine is called “BUMP”, the reason for the name is that it make the magazine more joyful, exciting and energetic, this is also portrayed in the sub heading, “ Bop till you drop” which emphasis on the movement of your body when listing to the music which our magazine talks about, with the artists and on a more social level. The sub heading is written in a slang style to reach out to the people who listen to the music, which is conveyed on the magazine.

Our magazine challenges other conventional magazine through the more upfront and jam-pack style on the front cover, the reason for this is that there are more attraction for the customer, through the colours, bold headings and a variety of prizes, which include posters and a free CD.

Our aim is for the people who listen to R&B which the majority are youths from mainly inner London, with this in our minds we made the magazine a kind of magnet for these people, for example we created a the title which has no meaning to people from Manchester, but to our certain customers has a varierty of meanings beyond ours. The represented social group we interpret ate is inner city youths, which we have a knowledge of as we are selves are inner city youths. The magazine therefore could just interpret our selves.

The media institution which will sell our magazines will be between a hip hop to a R&B. Because the magazine is shows this through the people other then our selves on the cover such as kanye west who is a Rapper, and the title BUMP and the sub heading BOP TILL U DROP all affiliate with a more Hip hop style tone. Moreover, the use of me and cris back to back in the picture adds to the hip-hop theme. However as this is an R&B magazine in the background came a more elegant background that was snow, to show the season of winter. This is why our magazine cover is more diverse to the usual magazine with a theme of Hip-hop and R&B collaborated in to BUMP.

The magazine does not single out any audience based on who they are but bases it on where the more R&B fans are. Through our knowledge we have found out that more people listen to R&B in London however not everyone does some people are curious about there favourite celebrity, this is what gave us the idea to add personal; interviews about the most popular celebrity, so more people will take notice and buy for the simple fact of the interview. The audience of our magazine cover will be London youths from ages 7 to 25, which in turn gives us a wide range of people to aim at. However, we also aim the magazine to people from the Suburbs as well through the many gifts we do give out, as the price is £2.50 this is cheap enough for the people from outside London and cheap enough for people who live in London. We also found out that more and more people outside of London have taken a keen eye to R&B through the image it gives them, so gradually we will appeal more to those people.

In making the magazine cover, I have learnt how to use Photoshop on an apple Mac computer. In photo shop, I have learnt how to put the background behind the main picture, also, I have learnt hot to take away the background by using a wand, which eliminates the background, and therefore I am able to put any background I wish. Moreover, I learnt how to draft through different word options to choose the most suitable for my magazine, which saved us a lot of time to do more important things, such as the background and pictures. Also constructing the magazine we learnt to copy and paste our picture on the screen in photo shop. Also, change the dimension to A4 so it would fit on our page.

If I was given the opportunity to make another front cover I would act with more confidence and try and give more input, also I would take it more serious as I took like a joke at first with our group only taking a few pictures which put our group in a bad situation, however this was also the turning point for us, as we all buckled up and starting working together and giving pointers to one another. Furthermore I will also make our group work together in a more appropriate manner, for example when we first were given a A3 paper we did not use the time wisely and this also dented our chances of getting a high grade. The last thing I would change would be my view on the project and I have realised this now so in a way I am grateful for this.
